YMCA Esplanade Pattrimanram 58th Anniversary

YMCA Pattimanram-unique Thamizh club of YMCA Esplanade celebrated its 58th Aniversary on 27th September 2003. It was well attended by literary audience and members. The inaugural session commenced with rendering of melodious songs by the lady Students of Thamizhissai Music College. Dr. Avvai Natarajan, formere vice-Chancellor of Thamizh University, Tanjore and president of YMCA, Pattrimanram presided. Hon'be Justice Thiru. A. Kulasekaran delivered the key note address. He commended the provision made in constitution safeguarding all national languages,and paid glowing tributes to the valuable contribution by YMCA Pattrimanram in development of Tamil culture.
Dr. G. Ebinesan, General Secretary felicitated the association followed by Mr. George Fernandez, branch Chairman .Earlier Prof. Dr. P.S. Jesudasan welcomed the gathering and Mr. G. Bakthvasalam, hon.sec submitted the annual report.
Professor Avvai Duraiswamy's Centenary was observed in post lunch session.
Mr. Nellai S. Muthu, Scientist, Sriharikota Space center presided .
Mr. A.V. Subramainam ,forme Additional General Manager Southern Railways and Dr. Venila Stalin eulogized the contributions made in literary fied by the great scholar and commentator Avvai Duraiswamy.Prof. Dr. Aru Azhagappan felicitated the contributions of Pulavar. K. Subramaniam, President of Bangalore Thamizh sangam.
The meetings concluded with vote of thanks by Mr. Richard Ezekiel, Branch Secretary and Pulavar. P.S. Krishnamurthy. The association records its appreciation to Mr. G. Bakthavasalam for serving 37 years as secretary of the club.
Kudos to Pattimanram which is marching ahead to Diamond Jubilee in 2005.

YMCA Esplanade Lighting Carrom Tournament

Esplanade Branch conducted Open Carrom Tournament on 10th and 11th October 2003. As many as 102 senior players from leading institutions participated in the tournament. The Tournament was Inaugurated by Mr. Sajjad Hussain, President, WCI (Madras) Pvt. Ltd., Chennai. Mr. K. Ramesh Babu - IOC was the Winner and Runner -up Mr. Premkumar of United India Insurance.
Mr. P. Thamaraikannan, I.P.S., Dy. Commissioner of Police, Washermenpet, Chennai was the Chief Guest and distributed the prizes.
The Officials of Chennai District Carrom Association conducted the tournament in a very profession manner. We place on record our thanks and appreciation to Mr. Ravikumar David, Co-ordinator of the tournament.
The Tournament was co-sponsored by AFL Limited, WCI (Madras) Pvt. Ltd., and

Mr.Yasigi Hori, General secretary SHIGA YMCA along with Dr. Shimano Yosh, president of SHIGA YMCA made a goodwill visit to Boys Town. A brief function was organized by the school staffs and children to felicitate their visit. Mr. Yasugi Horei spent some enteraining moment with the children and was profusely impressed
with the significant contribution made by YMCA for Community
Development, Dr.Shimano Yosh ,an eight times visitor to Boys town commended the phenomenal improvement of facilities and infrastructure in rehabilitating the underprivileged Children..

YMCA Inter-Collegiate Oratorical Contest

An inter collegiate oratorical contest was organized by YMCA students Activities committee, on Friday 19th October 2003 at YMCA Esplanade. Participants from about 15 city colleges exhibited excellent eloquence in
Debating on the topic 'Growth of a nation depends on Scientific advancement or cultural Development.
The competion was judged by eminent personalities Dr. Vennila Stalin, Ln. P. Balakrishnan and Kumari Chezhiyan, who congratulated the speakers. The Chief Guest MSF. Ln. C. Shanmuganathan, Distric Chairman Lions Internationsal 324 AI gave an inspiring speech and distributed the prizes. Dr. G. Ebinesan, General Secretary proposed the vote of thanks.

YMCA Royapuram 31st Annual Dheen Bandu Scripture Quiz Contest

Y.M.C.A. Royapuram Branch conducted its 31st Annual Dheena Bandu Scripture Quiz Contest for Sunday school students on Sunday the 24th August 2003 at CSI Ulaga Meetper Alayam, Royapuram. The programme was sponsored and the Rolling Throphy was instituted by Mr. V. V. S. Paulraj in memory of his son late
Mr. V. M. Ranjan Paulraj.
The Programme commenced with prayer by Rev. Ebenezer Immanuel, presbyter, C.S.I. Ulaga Meetper Alayam followed by the welcome address by Mr. P.S. Selwyn Devadoss (Chairman). Mr. V. V. S. Paulraj spoke on the significance of Deena Bandu Scripture Quiz held every year. Mr. Micheal Anand (Quiz Master) conducted the Quiz contest in a novel way. About 20 teams participated.
Sun Shine Sunday School won the first prize, Calvary Church Sunday School took the Second place and C.S.I. Christ church, Washermanpet, took the Third Place.
Dr. G. Ebinesan General Secretary, (YMCA Madras) distributed the prizes and the Rolling Trophy for the winners, consolation prizes and certificates were given to all the participants. Mr. Reginald Raj (Convenor) proposed the vote of thanks and the programme concluded by a closing prayer and benediction by Rev.
Amirtharaj.

YMCA Cultural Activities Committee
conducted the Inter Scholl Folk Dance
Competition on Wednesday the 27th
August 2003 at YMCA Kodambakkam.
19 Schools from Chennai city
participated in this competition. Mrs. Rebecca Doraipandian, Headmistress, CSI Deaf School
inaugurated the programme.

G. K. Pattery, Chairman, YMCA Cultural
Activities Committee presided over the
function and welcomed the gathering.
Dr. K. C. G. Varghese,
Chairman, Hindustan Group of
Institutions was the chief guest and
gave the address.
He also distributed the prizes
and rolling trophy to the winning
team.
Zion Matriculation Higher
Secondary School from Selaiyur won the
I Prize of Rs.4000/- St. Thomas
Matriculation Higher Secondary School
won the II Prize or Rs.3000/- and
Padma Seshadri Bala Bavan Higher
Scondary School won the III Prize of
Rs.2000/- and AV Meyyiappan Higher
Secondary School got the consolation
prize of Rs.1000/-.
